QUITE INTERESTING
The tips of the young mulberry trees are harvested and taken indoors.
The Bombyx Mori moth, which lives for 5 days and doesn‛t eat drink or fly, lays about 500 eggs which hatch into silkworms. These eat the mulberry tree leaves for about 30 days before pupating in bunches of twigs or manmade latticework.
Each worm spins its own cocoon with about a mile of silk which it makes from its saliva.
The cocoons are collected and then softened in hot water. Strands from several at a time are wound onto spinning wheels. Each scarf is made from the silk of about 1500 cocoons.

IMPORTANT
Because of the natural dyes used, you should advise your customers to wash deep colours before wearing.

100% Pure Silk Scarves

We supply three types of silk scarves which all come in packs of 10 in assorted colours. The shiny silk dip-dye and the shiny plain ones are made in Northern Thailand. The slub silk scarves are woven by hand in villages in Laos and finished in Northern Thailand. They measure about 35x160cms  depending on the tightness of weave. Natural dyes are used where possible and cold hand washing is recommended. There is no child labour.
